Travel in Style With Your Jewelry

Travel in Style With Your Jewelry
Tourists Looking At Map

Summer is the season of travel, when the world beckons for us to explore. No matter where you go, whether it’s a quiet mountain village or boisterous city, you’ll want to journey in style. Being the jewelry maven that I am, I’ve learned a thing or two over the years about traveling with my treasures. Taking your valuables with you on a trip can be a little tricky because it’s easy to misplace an expensive piece or tangle a chain. But not to worry! It’s equally simple to prevent that, keeping your jewelry safe and sound. That’s why I’m sharing what I know about traveling with jewelry, so you can enjoy your travels and your gorgeous adornments without worry.

Keep Your Valuables Close

First off, the safest way to keep tabs on your jewelry is by wearing it. So, when you travel, consider taking only as many jewelry items as you can comfortably put on.

Fortunately, at the airport you don’t have to take your valuables off when you go through security. But, if you require more treasures, make sure you store them safely in your carry-on to ensure your prized pieces are always by your side.

At your hotel room, never leave your jewelry out, even inside your luggage. For any valuables you’re not wearing, ask the hotel staff for a safe you can use, either in your room or behind the desk.

Home-Made Help

If you’re like me and switch up your style daily, you’ll have to find a way to pack a little more jewelry. Fortunately, there’s several tried-and-true methods depending on how many pieces you’ll need.

Home-made techniques come to mind first simply because all you have to do is look around the house. If you have extra buttons lying around, put them to use holding your earrings. Simply pop the post or hook of the earring through the hole and presto, it’s secure.

Straws are also fabulous way to keep your necklaces from becoming tangled. Loop one end of the necklace through the straw and then fasten the clasp.

Once you’ve organized your necklaces and earrings, put them in a gallon ziplock bag, zip it shut and drop it in your carry-on.

Soft Security

Now, if you want to offer your pieces more protection than a ziplock, you can’t go wrong with a nice jewelry bag. Crafted of soft brocade, velvet or silk, these sleek pouches are perfect if you’re traveling with a handful of select items. While some pieces may safely share a single pouch, you’ll want separate bags for others to prevent scratching and damage. Another perk is that these pouches fit easily into a carry-on or purse.

On a Roll

A jewelry roll organizer also shelters your valuables while offering more space. Though they’re small enough for your carry-on, these organizers allow you to pack all your items into separate compartments, keeping things from becoming tangled. Simply fill your jewelry roll organizer, fold it up and you’re ready to go.

All Boxed Up

Last but certainly not least, a jewelry box is perfect if you require a whole collection so you can shine for every occasion on the road. You don’t have to have a full-sized jewelry box either. There are plenty of compact cases and boxes that are perfect for travel. With individual compartments for your rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings, it will keep everything neat and organized. And that’s just how I like it!

The Benefit of Added Protection

Even with all the precautions of good packing, it’s still wise to insure your jewelry. Get your jewelry properly appraised at Yelton’s for its full and current value, then insure it with a policy that extends worldwide before you travel. You’ll be glad to have that additional peace of mind, just in case.
